A group of six individuals have been mysteriously placed in a dimly lit room, illuminated solely by flickering candles. Their host is shrouded in secrecy, and they cannot recall their arrival. The only path leading out of the room is destined to guide them to their fate. Those who stray from their path will receive guidance, while others will begin a new journey once their time has come.

He fears he may be the next victim of the mysterious vindictive force.

The story, based on the amateur mystery game by 7th Expansion, is told through various scenarios. Tsumihoroboshi is the sixth manga in a series that explores different scenarios in the Higurashi games, and the second one that attempts to answer past puzzling questions. Focusing on Ryuuguu Rena's sudden distrust of her friends, the story answers some lingering questions revolving around Furude Rika's mysterious death.

Before leaving, she is invited to a stargazing tradition; however, it quickly turns grim when a swarm of mysterious objects fills the dark sky, replacing the comforting golden hue with dark, jet-black hair. The following day, Kyoko is found at the wreckage of Mount Sengoku with the same golden Amagami hair as the villagers. She must act quickly to prevent an unknown terror from destroying humanity and unleashing a cosmic nightmare, especially with the recent strange occurrences in the sky and the terrifying events of the stargazing ceremony.
Following an earthquake in an unnamed prefecture of Japan, a fault is discovered on Amigara Mountain, very close to the epicenter of the quake. On the slopes of the mountain, two hikers meet; a man named Owaki and a woman named Yoshida. The former assumes that they are both here to see the fault, which has captured the attention of the global press. Following the sound of voices to the fault, the two of them marvel at the strange sight before them: countless human-shaped holes in a rock face exposed by the earthquake.
