Stories about the "chairudo". The title of the series is written with kanji which mean "small-kind-people", but Ogino gives them unusual readings so that it becomes a clever pun for "child". Chairudo are childlike people (even when they have become adults) with each an exceptional supernatural gift, a power. Some are "firestarters" for example. The main character, Hinagata Heiji, looks like a loser, but looks are deceptive. He has the uncanny ability to bring to life every inanimate object by bringing the object in touch with his blood. He wanders around, enlisting himself in a school from time to time (after all, he looks like a child). But every "chairudo" has got its own territory and conflicts between them, especially about the females, are numerous.

The younger residents have grown up only knowing the outside world through what they see and hear in the media. These are the stories of their everyday lives, the good and the bad, as they live out their days in a tiny town that no one can enter and no one can leave -- a town which, by its isolated nature, is destined to fade away.
This is a story that takes place in a certain prefecture in the north. In contrast to the few daylight hours it gets, its people are cheerful if a bit eccentric. Among them is Akita, a horned girl. A naturally argumentative and positive child, she lives happily every day. Spicing up her life is Asahi, her slightly odd childhood friend, and Komachi, a city girl who isn't quite used to life in the prefecture yet. There's also Akita's older sister, a member of the Girl Scouts... Wait, what's her name, again? Anyway, these cheerful and innocent girls will bring a smile to even zombies. Whenever you're feeling blue or tired... give it a read. With any luck, their antics will cheer you up.
