In ancient Japan's Warring States era, a Samurai general named Daigo Kagemitsu makes a pact with 48 demons. In exchange for complete dominion over the country, he promises to give them his unborn child's limbs. Once the child is born, Daigo commands him to be disposed of in the river, thinking that he'll die. But a kind-hearted sage rescues the baby and gives him prosthetics. Princess Zelda and the shrine maidens are filled with dread during a stormy night as they suspect that Vaati's seal may be loosening. To ensure their safety, Zelda summons Link and invites him to the castle, where he is tasked with safeguarding the princess and her companions while they access the portal to the Four Sword Sanctuary. Upon opening the portal, a mysterious figure emerges - Shadow Link. This impostor proceeds to abduct the shrine maidens and imprison them in crystals. Link pursues the culprit to the sanctuary, where he acquires the Four Sword - a mystical weapon which has the power to fragment its user into four identical clones. Using the sword, Link defeats Shadow Link and frees the maidens from their crystal confines. Unfortunately, Vaati is released from his prison once more and unleashes his fury upon the previously tranquil kingdom.
The comic follows the misadventures of Link and his efforts in avoiding his responsibility of saving the world. The first part takes place in Termina just moments before the Moon crashes into the land. Link uses the Ocarina of Time to turn back time, but only so he can keep playing on his Nintendo 3DS.
