The manga is about ten-year-old Chie, \"the most unfortunate girl in Japan,\" who manages her family diner while her unemployed yakuza father and her mother are separated. Note: Jarinko Chie won the 26th Shogakukan Manga Award for best general manga in 1981.

There exists a secret organization that has members traveling across time to save people from their wrongful deaths. Namihira Bon accidentally learn about the Time Patrol, and is recruited as an apprentice member. Together with Rim, the patrol in charge of mentoring him , Bon goes to various historical periods to rescue innocent people, trying not to alter history in the process.
