The series features the infamous space-pirate Cobra who was once forced to hide from enemies by surgically altering his face and erasing his own memory. At the start of the story he is living an ordinary life but after using a dream-machine he starts to regain his memories. Reunited with his android partner Lady Armaroid and his old ship Tortuga, he now faces foes both old and new. The first, and most well-known of the manga stories sees him encountering the Royal sisters whose bodies hold the map to a great treasure.

Motivated by his duty as an older sibling, Mutta Nanba has always felt compelled to stay ahead of his younger brother, Hibito. Consequently, when the brothers witnessed a peculiar occurrence in the night sky back in the summer of 2006, they vowed to pursue careers as astronauts. Hibito set his sights on traveling to the moon while Mutta aspired to explore Mars. Fast forward to 2025 and Hibito is preparing to become the first Japanese person to set foot on the moon while Mutta has been dismissed from his job at an automotive development company. Despite facing challenges in securing alternative employment, Mutta's life changes dramatically when he receives a letter from JAXA, informing him that he has been accepted to participate in the next astronaut selection. It seems fate has presented Mutta with an opportunity to honor the pledge he made to his younger brother all those years ago, and he eagerly embraces the arduous challenge of going to space.

An alternative version of the Lost World

Global affairs in the mid-21st century are largely managed by a massive computer network. Plans are underway to incorporate Spartacus, an artificial intelligence system, into the network through a software upgrade. The idea raises the concern of allowing non-human decision-makers to wield too much control. To evaluate Spartacus' capabilities, a miniature world in the form of a new space-station habitat is constructed for deployment and testing. In the event of danger, the system can be deactivated, and the station destroyed. Yet, what if Spartacus improbably turns on Earth and emerges as a threat?

The ultimate test involves a hazardous mission simulation on an abandoned starship. Each batch of ten ambitious candidates embark on the challenge, but Tada's team is stunned to discover an extra member onboard the Esperanza. As the exam progresses, emotions run high and allegations of sabotage arise with Tada as the prime suspect.

Asumi Kamogawa, a petite 14-year-old, possesses an unbridled adoration for the cosmos, particularly the twinkling stars. Under the tutelage of an affable ghost who wears a colossal lion head and goes by the nickname "Lion-san," she has been studying space since infancy. Despite an unsteady home life, Asumi resolves to join the Tokyo Space School. In no time, Asumi befriends a cadre of classmates, including her childhood friend Shinnosuke Fuchuuya, who sports spectacles and harbors a staunch brutal honesty, Kei Oumi, a cordial young woman who drew inspiration from Neil Armstrong's photos of the moon landing, Marika Ukita, an enigmatic and stunningly gorgeous girl with a few secrets of her own, and Shuu Suzuki, a bold and bright boy who maintains a laidback approach. The setting of Futatsu no Spica is an alternative future in which Japan's maiden human-crafted spacecraft crashed in 2010, and it follows the growth of these high schoolers as they travel toward the stars.
